DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY AND PEDAGOGY

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of "Sports Psychology and Pedagogy" within the Faculty of "Sports Management" of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports  was established in 1958 on the basis of the Department of "Pedagogy and Psychology" of the Uzbekistan State Institute of Physical Education. The first head of the department was A.M.Mukhamedov. From 1959 to 1962, VG Sharov headed the department. Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor L.E.Lebedyanskaya worked as the head of the "Pedagogy and Psychology" department from 1962 to 1971. He was the first in our Republic to introduce the subject of "Sports Psychology" into the educational process, developed a methodological basis for teaching this subject, and made a great contribution to the formation and development of the department. As a result of L.E.Lebedyanskaya's work, a group of highly qualified specialists and trainers - teachers has grown.

From 1972 to 1978, candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor N.A.Yakhyarov headed the department. From 1978 to 2012, with several breaks, candidate of pedagogical sciences, professor Z.G.Gapparov, in 1986-1987 and 2001-2003 candidate of biological sciences, associate professor M.A.Tursunova worked as the head of the department.

In the academic year 2011-2012, the candidate of psychological sciences U.D.Kadirov acted as the head of the department.

2012-2020 academic years candidate of psychological sciences, associate professor D.N.Arzikulov works as the head of the department .

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychological sciences N.SH Umarova acted as the head of the department in the academic year 2020-2021 .

In the 2021-2023 academic years, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychological sciences  A.M.Makhmudov worked as the head of the department.

Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences (DSc) Associate Professor Ishtaev Javlon Mavlonboevich has been working as the head of the department since March 11, 2023.

F.N.Nasriddinov, a physical education and sports employee who served in Uzbekistan since the establishment of the department, doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor I.R.Ahmedov, candidates of pedagogical sciences, associate professors A.A.Azimov, N.I.Ivanova, U.S.Temirova, candidates of psychological sciences, associate professors U.D.Qodirov H.T.Mahmudova, senior teachers Z.T.Sayitmetova, L.L.Kurishkina, T.P.Predibaylo, D.B.Vakhobova, D.R.Qudratova, D.B.Qosimova, G.S.Alikhodjaeva, A.U.Xayitov, F.I.Haydarov, D.M.Yokubova, E.N.Sirliyev, Y.B.Rahimboeva, Z.P.Rasulov, R.Minajiddinova and others made a worthy contribution to provide education and training to students and young people, to develop and improve the organizational structure of the department and to the continuation of advanced traditions. Z.G.Gapparov, Sh.Sh.Usmanova, A.Makhmudov, I.Klimenko E.A.Zotova, N.E.Dusanov, B.F.Kurdoshev, O.X.Xasanov, D.Nazarov, Z.Saidkhojayev, N.Ghafarov, A.Uzokov D.Makhamatova, Z.Nazarova, M.Abdukhakimova, M.Akmuradov, G.Kasimova, R.Nazarov, S.Alfayzov, A.Dekhkanov conduct classes on psychology and pedagogy.

In 2023, the undergraduate course of sports activities (chess) were added to the department. Professors M.Musayev, E.Jumanov, A. Sabirov, D. Davlatova are conducting practical and seminar trainings in the course of sports activities (chess). Candidate of psychological sciences, associate professor, president of the International Association of Sports Psychology, Ulyaeva Lira Gayazovna, a Russian expert, also works in our department.Professors and teachers of the department have been teaching undergraduate students "General psychology", "History of psychology", "Social psychology", "Sports psychology", "Sports psychodiagnostics", "Consulting psychology and psychocorrection", "Psychology and sports psychology", "Ontogenetic psychology", "Physical training and sports pedagogy", "Work psychology", "Family psychology", "Management psychology", "Psychotechnologies in sports", "Methodology of sports psychology", "Research planning in psychology" and for students studying at the master's level "Psychological training in Paralympic sports", "Management psychology". At the same time, professors and teachers of the department are giving lectures to the audience of the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the scientific-methodical provision, retraining and upgrading of the specialists in physical education and sports. To date, more than 500 textbooks, monographs, teaching manuals, scientific articles and recommendations, electronic literature have been created and published by professors and teachers of the department.

5210200 – Psychology (sport) bachelor course was opened in the department in 2009. Currently, 95 students are studying in this course. Since the establishment of the department, 1 Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences (DSc), 6 teachers have successfully defended their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) dissertations in Pedagogical Sciences. Currently, 5 of the teachers of the department are working on PhD dissertations, 2 on DSc dissertations. Contracts with various sports federations were created and psychological-pedagogical counseling, psycho-corrective and psycho-diagnostic work are also being conducted.
