THE HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department of sports was created in 1955, in the year of formation of institute, with functional purpose on training of highly qualified specialists in volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, handball and swimming. In 1956-57 academic year from the structure of department specialization - swimming was allocated. In 1959 the republic for the first time received 36 experts with the higher education: on volleyball – 9, on basketball – 11, on soccer – 15 and on tennis – 1 which in the subsequent were distributed for work in the specialty to various regions of Uzbekistan. In 1966-67 academic year from department specializations soccer and the handball for the purpose of formation of independent department were allocated.
For the entire period of functioning of department only on full-time courses 766 specialists in volleyball, 590 – on basketball, 198 – on tennis were trained. In 1958 the faculty of the correspondence and evening course where today it is prepared was created: 828 specialists in volleyball, 600 – on basketball and 250 – on tennis. Only for years of independence on extramural studies it was prepared: 171 specialists in volleyball, 73 – on basketball and 26 – on tennis. In 2000 the department received the new name - "Department of Sports and National Games". Since 2018 with acquisition of the status the university the name of department – "Theory and Technique of Volleyball, Basketball".
The honored coach of Uzbekistan of Cords of V.H. who headed it till 1960 was the first head of the department of sports from the date of foundation of institute (1955). In various years managed department: Keshishev G.L. – honored coach of Uzbekistan (1960-1968), Shveduks V.F. – honored coach of Uzbekistan (1968-1970), Itskov R.I. – honored coach of Uzbekistan (1970-1972), Rasulev A.T. – professor (1972-1974), Kasymov A.Sh. – the associate professor (1974-1984), Ayrapetyants L.R. is the professor, the honored coach of Uzbekistan (1984 - 2016), Kdyrova M.A. – to. item of N, associate professor (2016-2018), Ashurkova S. F. – the world class master of sports on volleyball (2018- 2022), since September 2022, the department has been headed by Ummatov A.A. PhD, associate professor of the department, judge of the highest category.
During work of department as the above-named managers the significant contribution to business of improvement of teaching and educational, educational and methodical, research, sports and professional and pedagogical activity and also to completion of department by young perspective specialists was made. At the same time the industrial practice, spiritual and educational and professional and pedagogical discipline became stronger. Considerable development was gained by such fields of activity as development of research subjects, including final qualification works, master and master's theses, production and the publication of educational, educational and methodical and scientific literature both on Uzbek, and in Russian languages. The lot of work on improvement of sports skill of the student's contingent of department was carried out and carried out.
During the period from 1972 to 1982 the women's basketball team "SKIF" acted in the Primier League of national championship. Being national basic team of Uzbekistan, successfully spoke at Spartakiads of the people, taking the place in the eight of the strongest teams of the country. Team players: T. Volkova, A. Kopteva, R. Salimova, T. Tornidu were the part of national teams of the country, being winners and prize-winners of various large international competitions. R. Itskov working at department was the head coach of team.
The volleyball and basketball national teams showed good results as at intra republican competitions (the championships, the Federation Cup, the Cup of Uzbekistan, "Universiade"), and the international tournaments in recent years owing to what the first world class masters of sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan appeared. In days of independence of the country, the women's team the team on volleyball of Uzbekistan which structure was created from number of students of department in 1993 for the first time participated in the VII championship of Asia (China) where it took the 6th place of honor. Further in 1997 (Philippines) and 1999 (Hong Kong) the same team participated in IX and X championships of Asia and both times won the 6th place. The SKIF team is the bronze medalist of the Club championship of Asia of 1998 (Vietnam).
Students and graduates of department – tennis players S. Ikramov, V. Uzakov, I. Israilova, V. Shegay, B. Sapayev, D. Saidkhodzhayeva, M. Inoyatov, R. Biktyakov, L. Biktyakov repeatedly participated at the international competitions and adequately defended honor of our country. And the student D. Istomin is the numerous winner and the prize-winner of the largest international tournaments. The faculty of department prepared and published 13 monographs, more than 24 textbooks, 124 manuals, 300 methodical grants, 200 methodical recommendations, 600 scientific articles and theses.
Teachers, graduate students, applicants, undergraduates and students of department introduced in practice sports, educational and professional work various recommendations. The graduates and teachers of department having the doctor's degree, professor's rank: Ayrapetyants L.R., Koshbakhtiyev I.A., Rasulev A.T., Rikhsiyeva A.A., Seytkhalilov E.A., Usmonkhodzhayev T.S.; candidate's degree, associate professor's rank: Alimkhodzhayev Ch.R., Batyrs H. A., Bezverkhov V. P., Sh.H. Israilov, M.A. Kurbanova, Sh.A. Pulatov, Dukalskaya A.V., Kasymov A.Sh., Pulatov A.A., Sergeyev G.M., Kdyrova M.A. The scientific products of the faculty of department are regularly published in scientific publications of institute, magazines and collections of the scientific works published in Uzbekistan, the CIS countries and foreign countries. Students of department actively participate in scientific forums, competitions which repeatedly became winners and prize-winners of these actions.
